“Since 1984 The Constantia Preschool has succeeded in providing a learning environment in which every child is nurtured, helping them to develop individually, thus promoting their self-confidence and self esteem. In developing these two characteristics specifically, together with cognitive, motor and social skills, your child will be assured of a successful and happy future.”
Mary Norton – Director of Constantia Preschool and Children’s Cottage
We operate in accordance with the private school calendar. Kindly contact the school for a detailed calendar.
Our daily routine is consistent, for all the ages, with only the timetable varying to allow the children to play in the playground with their own age group. Themes change weekly in each classroom and are carried through to our music period as well as our creative movement. Our morning programme includes art, morning ring, music and movement, outside play, educational games, work books, snack time and story time.
Weekly special activities
During the term each child is given an opportunity to participate in our exciting weekly activities.
- Monday: News Day
Children share their weekend news with the class during morning ring.
- Tuesday: Show and tell
Children bring an item, preferably theme related, and address the class during morning ring.
- Wednesday: Children share a special book of their choice from home at story time.
- Thursday: Baker Baker project. This entails baking or making treats at home, to bring and share with their class.
These activities encourage self-confidence and develop their social skills as the children learn to speak in front of the class.
Birthdays are celebrated with a special ‘birthday ring’, where they receive a birthday crown and are able to share their special birthday experiences and expectations. Children are welcome to bring birthday treats to share with their class on the day.
Enrichment and Outings
We believe that learning involves so much more than just the core curriculum. We endeavour to expose children to as many learning and enriching opportunities as possible. Outings are organised by each teacher every term. These outings are varied, age appropriate, educational and stimulating for the children. The cost for these are covered by the school. Examples include the Fire station, Iziko Museum, the Planetarium, the Baxter theatre, Barnyard farm, a chocolate factory, Pick n Pay, Intaka Island, the Science Centre, a train ride and the beach. We also host many promotional shows organised by companies in the Cape Town area. For the younger children a school visit, appropriate to their age, is arranged. Lilliput Children’s Theatre Company, FANSA and Puppetworld have visited us in the past.
Food (Chicken ala king, Lasagne, Lentil stew, Lamb casserole and a late afternoon snack)
We offer healthy and delicious home cooked meals and snacks that are made on the premises daily. The menu may vary according to availability of seasonal produce.
On enrollment each child is supplied a branded school bag, t-shirt and cap.
